MediHerbs Hair Grower Shampoo Bar Review

Just a disclaimer: I’m not an expert on this. I’m merely speaking from experience and giving facts I got from other sources in the internet. Try at your own risk!

There are so much commercial shampoo options in the Philippine market that it seems like we’re not only limited to one option that works best for our hair type or hair concern. However, have you ever wondered if your shampoo actually works against you without you knowing? It may come as a shock that some ingredients found in your trusty commercial shampoo such as SLS and fragrances could be one of the causes of damage in your hair, like hair fall and split ends. Another fact, if silicon is found in your go-to shampoo which you swear by, the silicon is most likely the reason behind why your hair feels so smooth or healthy after using it.

I had this problem for a while now, and after some research (aka about three hours of being on Google), I found a product that wasn’t so crazy, but isn’t talked about enough – a shampoo bar!

A shampoo bar is basically a bar of soap that’s designed for hair. By the way, normal soaps are too harsh for hair so I don’t advise you to use that. What’s so great about a shampoo bar is it’s usually free of chemicals and actually strips the hair off of chemicals that had built up. If you compare it to liquid shampoo for its size, a solid shampoo bar also lasts way longer!

Since it’s so unconventional, it isn’t usually something you see from walking around the drugstores in the Philippines. Luckily, I found a hidden gem among the different whitening soaps in Watson’s – a shampoo bar called MediHerbs Hair Grower and costs 85php.

Their packaging is colourful but isn’t quite appealing, but it doesn’t matter much. Its claims are that it cleanses hair without stripping the hair of its natural oils, so it’s safe for everyday use. Regular use of the bar controls falling hair, clears off synthetic elements that clogs pores and hair strands and thus may promote growth of new hair. Their ingredient list is quite impressive too, as there are only nine ingredients: coconut oil, lye water, virgin coconut oil, patchouli oil, carotene oil, aloe vera extract, fragrance, oil soluble color and gugo extract. Almost all of them have benefits, which is already a thumb up for me. They have fragrance in as an ingredient, though.

When I opened it, it had a very uncommon herb-like smell, which I don’t really hate. It was a really nice purple color. In terms of application, it was very simple and it has a rich lather. I do shampoo first, so my shampoo tends to stay in my hair so I noticed the bubbles on this one dissipated after a minute and left my hair feeling very, very stiff. I expected it because after reading about this product and other shampoo bars, I found out that for the first few days or weeks or even months, hair really turns out like this due to the fact that hair has been so used to chemicals that it had to adjust to a milder, less damaging product. It’s also strips the hair off of nasty chemicals that had built up, so there may be some flakes of dandruff-like things in your hair for your first few times of usage too.

A tip: do not attempt to comb with wet hair when using this product for the first few times. It’s going to cause so much breakage because it makes hair very stubborn. After it dried, it was also very hard to comb. At this point, I started to have a lot of doubts because it felt so bad that I thought the product was counteracting. If you decide to use this, tiisin mo lang yan.

After four days of using it, my hair went back to normal. I realized using this actually made my hair feel squeaky clean more than other shampoos. A few more uses later, it actually felt better like I had my virgin hair back, despite my dyed hair. It felt healthy, because even if I shampoo every day, my hair felt like it was coated by its natural oils, just enough to make it look shiny and still have its natural bounce. I don’t feel the need to use conditioner with this product because my hair felt like it didn’t need an extra boost to be healthy, however, I occasionally use argan oil whenever I blowdry my hair, just so it could have a protective layer against damage.

I’m not sure if this is the best hair growing product ever, but baby hairs have definitely been growing where it hasn’t before. However, I’ll continue to use this product because it almost seems like it’s reversing the damage that my hair goes through, and you can be assured of the process because it’s a very natural product. It’s also very cost efficient, I’d pay way higher for the benefits it had given me. It made my hair stronger and more natural-looking too. I recommend this product, but only if you were willing to work with tough hair and weird build up for a small period of time. If not, well, this might be the product that could work for you!

Until my next post! xx
